  • However, desperate people seek desperate measures. Many programs exploit this desperation and the obsession with weight by promoting some half truths and bogus science.
  • Buying into these programs of fad diets and no exercise many obese and overweight people have lost weight rapidly by exposing their bodies to damage and ill health.
  • Given these quick fix solutions, people are confused, on how to select a good weight control method. Here are some truths.
Rapid weight loss is deceptive.
  • When you starve yourself on a day, the body utilizes its glycogen [carbohydrate energy] reserves and you may see rapid weight loss of up to 2kg - most being water. However water is replenished through the diet and people experience weight gain and disappointment.
  • Make sure its fat loss - not water loss: Make sure you are losing fat and not water through thermal wraps that make you sweat.
  • Speed isn't important - health is:
    • To loose 1 pound of fat you have to burn off 3,500 calories; which is burning 500 more calories than you eat each day to lose just 1 pound a week.

    • Diets that are low in calories or imbalanced deprive you of vitamins and minerals. Hence diets should be low only to the extent they can provide you with daily requirements of essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
